Lifeguard spent most of Wednesday day and night and all day yesterday responding to the crisis. The Executive Leadership team organized operations and HR and then executed a disaster plan to assist communities, employees, and their families. Operations in Birmingham, Chattanooga, Nashville, Knoxville, and Mobile assisted the communities in emergency response and transports to local hospitals. HR worked through the night contacting employees to ensure everyone's safety, their families' safety, and assess their needs.
As the 911-ambulance provider in Dade County, Georgia and the City of East Ridge, Tennessee, Lifeguard responded to many calls for medical assistance during the tornadoes that affected several areas in Hamilton and Bradley counties and areas in North Georgia. One of the heaviest areas hit by this storm was Trenton, Georgia. Even though Lifeguard crews who work and live in the area were affected by the gravity of the situation, they remained committed to helping the communities in which they serve. According to operations manager, Jim Webber, "All law enforcement, fire, and EMS pulled together to accomplish their tasks. The teamwork across the entities was invaluable during this devastation."
Thankfully, the majority of Lifeguard's team members were unharmed; however, some have lost their homes, some have lost family members and loved ones, or have suffered damage to their property or vehicles.
As Lifeguard has experienced disasters in our history with Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina, we truly understand how these disasters are devastating to our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Lifeguard has a plan to provide assistance and relief to our team members who have suffered loss from these storms; we recognize that you may wish to help your Lifeguard teammates. It is during crisis that we rise above and beyond.
Each operation is taking donations to aid our team members. Anything that you can spare is welcome and appreciated. Families are in need of everything from personal toiletries, clothing, household items, toys, baby items, pet items, non-perishable food, drinking water, cleaning supplies, etc. If you have items that you were considering for donation to a local charity, please consider donating those items for our families in Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia. Operations are coordinating delivery efforts to get these items to our Sister Operations.
