Lifeguard-Chattanooga and Life Care Center of East Ridge teamed up again this year to sponsor a dragon boat in the annual races that benefits the T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital. The team kept their tradition alive and again named their dragon boat "The Love Boat." Each dragon boat measured 46' in length and held 20 paddlers, a drummer, and a steerer. Unfotunately, the team's practice was rained out, so they held a makeshift practice on the day of the event. The typical race only last about 80 secondss, as the teams paddle furiously. The Love Boat ran two heats and finished 3rd in the first and would have finished 2nd in the other but had to pull up short in order to avoid collision with another boat that entered their lane.
The teams could also set up tents at the festival. The Lifeguard-Chattanooga and Life Care Center of East Ridge grilled hamburgers and hot dogs at their tents for paddlers, family members, and other supporters. Altogether, the teams and sponsors raised over $137,000 for the Children's Hospital.
