Lifeguard-Birmingham and Southern Care Hospice hosted the first annual Shelby County Senior Citizen Prom earlier in June. The Titantic-themed prom was held at the Calera United Methodist Church in Shelby County. It was a formal affair, complete with dinner and music from the 30's, 40's, and 50's, although prom would not be complete without the Prom Kings and Prom Queens. Several individuals from the different senior centers were selected as the Prom Kings and Queens of the night.

Many volunteers helped this night to be a success for the crowd of at least 150 seniors. Lifeguard-Birmingham's team provided valet parking, seating assistance, and servers for dinner. The team also helped to meet other needs throughout the evening, such as set up and clean up. However, Lifeguard's team did not idly stand by; they were out on the dance floor, dancing with the seniors. The team and the seniors had a very enjoyable evening!

The event was a collaborative effort from Southern Care Hospice, Lifeguard Ambulance, Chandler Health and Rehab, Shelby Ridge Nursing Home, Shelby Baptist Hospital, the cities of Calera, Alabaster, Montevallo, Pelham, Columbiana, Chelsea, and Helena, and the senior centers in the aforementioned cities. The hope is to continue this tradition and make it an annual event.
